The French town of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is 25 km west of the center of Paris. It is relatively young – it was founded in 1960. According to 2018 data, its population is just over 228 thousand people.
The main attraction among its developed infrastructure is the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome. Its construction lasted from 2011 to 2014. It hosted the 2016 European Athletics Championships and the 2022 Track Cycling World Championships. Next to the building, there's a bicycle motocross stadium (BMX).
In 2024, the velodrome will host track cycling competitions for men and women as part of the Olympic Games program. The tournament is scheduled for July 27 and from August 2 to August 11.
As part of an introductory tour of the competition venues, cyclist Florian Grengbo expressed his opinion about the velodrome. He noted the track's uniqueness and the speed one can achieve there. Compared to others, it is a meter higher, and long turns allow cyclists to show faster results. The President of the Olympic Games Organizing Committee called the velodrome the pearl of French sports.
Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines will have a huge fan zone. All fans will be able to watch the competition on big screens. This space can accommodate up to 4,000 people. Here, spectators will be able to relax and chat with like-minded people. In addition, it will become a "showcase" of local craftsmen's goods.
In 2024, Paris will host the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games. The grandiose world-class event will bring together 10,500 athletes. They will demonstrate their professional skills at 35 arenas, stadiums, and venues. Fans will see tournaments in 41 main sports and 4 additional ones.
