From the very beginning of its existence, the Velodrome stadium was intended not only for football, but also for cycling competitions. It was used as a playing ground for the 1938 and 1998 World Cups, as well as the 1960, 1984 and 2016 European Championships. Moreover, the Velodrome hosted concerts of musical performers and several matches of the French rugby team.
